Editor's review

Like Feist or Antony & the Johnsons, Joan Wasser pops out of the indie-rock scene with a surprising sense of soul. Armed with a velvety keyboard, nightclub pipes, and a stack of Joan Armatrading LPs, Wasser gives us blissfully stunning songs.

Biography

Joan as Police Woman's Real Life is the US release of the critically-acclaimed solo debut from singer/violinist and former member of The Dambuilders and Those Bastard Souls, Joan Wasser. Wasser has recorded with Antony & The Johnsons (with whom she duets on Real Life), Sheryl Crow, Nick Cave, Scissor Sisters, and Rufus Wainwright in her career leading up to Real Life. Released in the UK last year, Real Life received critical acclaim from many of the nation's publications, including Uncut magazine, which rated the album #40 of their top 50 albums of 2006. The album sees its stateside release on Tuesday, June 12th.

Spin Magazine recently wrote of Real Life, "A soulful indie rock-tinged collection of smoke-filled, lust-driven, hypnotic moments of unfound love and love lost."

In addition, Joan as Police Woman is releasing a bonus disc to Real Life comprised of six non-album cuts, including a cover of David Bowie's "Sweet Thing," "Happiness is a Violater" (inspired by Condoleeza Rice) and "We Don't Own It (Solo)." Entitled Real Life (B Sides) the bonus disc will be included in the same packaging as Real Life physically can be purchased separately from the digital release.
