The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8110 for AT&T has a similar design and feature set to the carrier's RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120. However, instead of Wi-Fi, the Pearl 8110 has integrated GPS, which allows for real-time tracking and turn-by-turn directions with the addition of a location-based service like AT&T Navigator. It's a good option for road warriors or anyone who could use a little help getting from point A to point B. The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8110 is available now in either red or titanium and comes at an affordable $99.99 with a two-year contract and after rebates and discounts.

We tested the quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900; GPRS/EDGE) RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8110 in San Francisco using AT&T service, and call quality was decent. On our end, the audio was loud and clear, though on some calls, voices sounded slightly garbled. We were still able to communicate with our callers and interact with an airline's voice automated system. Meanwhile, our friends said the sound was quite good. Unfortunately, speakerphone quality wasn't the greatest, as there was an echo to the calls. On an bright note, we were able to pair the Pearl 8110 with the Logitech Mobile Traveller Bluetooth headset and the Motorola S9 Active Bluetooth Headphones.

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8110's battery has a rated talk time of 4.5 hours and up to 15 days of standby time. We are still conducting our battery drain tests but will update this section as soon as we have final results. According to FCC radiation tests, the Pearl 8110 has a digital SAR rating of 1.22 watts per kilogram.

We are waiting for the AT&T Navigator service to be activated on our review unit, and we will provide you with a full report on the GPS capabilities once this is complete. For more information on the Pearl 8110's design and feature set, please read our full review of the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120.

Summary: There's no help for Mac users given either, and though PocketMac is licensed by RIM for syncing contacts, calendars and more for Mac users, it's a bit flaky and is in any case not promoted as a solution

Summary: You'll need to weigh up the pros and cons of GPS vs. Wi-Fi if having to choose between the 8110 and 8120, but the core functions remain the same, and we love it
