Version: ACDSee 8 Photo Manager 8.1
"As an image viewer, slideshow and picture disk creator - unbeatable."
Pros: Very fast, compatible with every image format under the sun, will play videos and animations and will even deal with archived files, but...
Cons: The price isn't justified by packing it with image editing tools - Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop are image editors, ACDSee isn't and it shouldn't try to be

"at $49.99 USD - Well Worth the Money"
Pros: Huge Feature set, I like the updated layout from Version 7. Healing brush a big bonus for this product!!
Properties Pane has been expanded for better viewing of the Database, File, Exif and IPTC data this is good stuff for those who want more in-depth info
Huge leap forward over version 6
Cons: I find it slower in some cases than 7 in viewing images. I totally disagree with the fact that I need to submit an email to get the full 30-Day Trial (I dont like being forced to receive emails)
I dont like the way it takes over all your image (picture and video) file formats for viewing during install. ACDSee is not NOT what I would suggest a fast video viewing utility and they should either speed it up the loading or drop the video support all together.
I would like to see the older version 3.1SR1 updated and sold at a lower price. 3.1SR1 was and still is probably the fastest image viewer in history. For those like myself that want a bare-bones image viewer without all the slideshow and video viewing stuff.... just give me a fast-small file sized product that I can view my images quickly and easily.

Version: ACDSee 8 Photo Manager 8.1
"The next iteration bloatware"
Pros: There is a slight superficial progress in usability from the previous version.
There are features that may be useful sometimes, if they work, but are hardly indispensable.
Cons: The User Interface in this version still contains many space-wasting elements compared to v5.
For example in the Thumbnails Pane fit less thumbnails compared to v5.
Many of the features (in this version) are already available in more advanced form(s) in specialized products (some of which are free) or in the OS.
For example: Batch Rename, Duplicate Finder, screen capture, Compare Images, Quick Search, synchronization (so robocopy can't do the job?).
An example of "Batch Rename" using OS built-in functionality:
cmd /v:on /c "set k=0& for %i in (*.jpg) do ren "%i" template!k!.jpg & set /a k+=1"
(the above one-line command will "Batch Rename" all jpg files (from the current folder) to template[number].jpg; that command will work even if ACDSee is not installed - amazingly!)
What happened with the old (but verified) philosophy: keep it simply coz it may has bugs?
Maybe the reliability and usability are less important (for ACD Systems) than the "features".
