Mars is getting a new visitor

May 15, 2008 9:51 AM PDT

The Surface Stereo Imager, built by the University of Arizona, will provide high-resolution, stereo, panoramic images of the Martian surface. The camera will sit on top of the Phoenix, at about the same height as an average person--around 2 meters. It will simulate the sight of a human and take photos with a resolution of 1,024 x 1,024 pixels. It also has optical and infrared filters.
