The Myhrvold-commissioned difference engine was shipped from London in a custom-designed box, and it took eight hours to pack up. It arrived Wednesday at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif. The difference engine weighs 4.5 tons and cost about a million dollars to create. After the exhibit is over at the Computer History Museum, the difference engine is slated to move to Myhrvold's personal collection.
